Making Money At Poker
If you’re good at it and smart at it, you can make a little money playing poker. It’s a lot harder to do so than in the past, and generally the amount of dough you can make is small (unless you get really lucky and cash in a huge tournament or something). At the high-stakes level and the high buy-in tournament level, the players are much tougher now than in the past, so don’t be thinking you’re the next Doyle Brunson and are going to fleece billionaire oil men out of money. Chances are you are up against some 22 year-old poker whiz kid when you start playing at that high of a level.
But hey, there’s still money to be made at the lower stakes and sometimes medium stakes games and tournaments. Here’s some tips:
1. Don’t bluff that much. People think poker is all about bluffing. It’s not. It’s about playing your cards well.
2. Find the easiest games possible. Remember, it’s now how good you are, it’s how good you are relative to your opponents. I’d rather be a 5 playing against a bunch of 2’s than an 9 playing against a bunch of 10’s.
3. Read plenty of poker strategy articles. Nowadays, you can find a bunch of good stuff free on the Internet.
