Making Money By Flipping Websites

If you’re into the online business sort of thing, one way to make money is to buy and sell websites. Alternatively, you can just start your own website, run it for a year or so and then sell it. Let’s look at these scenarios:

The Flip

If you intend to buy and then sell a website, you generally want to do one where you feel that you can make an immediete improvement on. For example, you notice it is not properly monetized, so you move some stuff around, or you add some SEO enhancements. You basically spend about 3-6 months fixing up a website and try to start making it earn about 50% more than it is currently. After you do that, you sell it. Assuming you got hte same multiple, you’d make a 50% return on your investment in less than a year. Pretty good!

It is sometimes difficult to buy and sell websites since the market is fairly illiquid. However, a company called WM Media makes it easier on you, at least when it comes to the selling. So you just have to buy a website, fix it up and sell it to them. They’re pretty understanding when it comes to website flippers, so if you have a certain price in mind, you can tell them and explain it to them you’re looking to reach a certain % return on your investment.

Create Then Sell

If you want to skip the ‘buying the website’ part, you just need to create one yourself. Pick a niche you know a lot about, write about it, and monetize it with Adsense, affiliate ads, text link ads, etc. You need to generally own the website at least a year or so or else no one will really want to buy it from you. People are suspicious of sites that were created and then sold within 3 months.
